Following the convening of a Sacramento County Blue Ribbon Commission on Disproportionate African American Child Deaths in 2011, Sierra Health Foundation and The Center partner with Sacramento County to create the community-driven Steering Committee on Reduction of African American Child Deaths, activating the community to reduce the disparity in local Black child deaths. The Steering Committee establishes The Center’s Black Child Legacy Campaign program in 2015 to address the four leading preventable causes of death. Community organizations lead wraparound services in eight Sacramento neighborhoods with the highest mortality disparities, driven by data and a targeted approach that results in health improvements for all children across the region.
